In the literary world there are many books that have captivated the readers' heart, some of them have a film version. However, there are films which are closer to the written version of the story, while others suffer some changes in order to make them more merchantable or because it is difficult to imitate some features that appear in the books.

The film version of Gulliver's travel picked up parts of the original story of the book written by Jonathan Swift, published in 1726, and added funny situations for making the film more suitable for children. For instance, the film protagonized by the american actor Jack Black as Gulliver, the protagonist is not very intelligent but very funny, interested in music, video games and classic movies such as star wars and titanic, he lived in New York city and he worked as a mail deliverer, who was sent to a trip to the Bermuda Triangle to explore that mysterious zone. While, in the book Gulliver was a very smart doctor who lived in London and he decided to go on a trip to East Indies. Besides, the time line used for both versions was different because in the film Gulliver was a man from the 21st century that arrives to Lilliput, a place where its inhabitants were living the 18th century lifestyle and they talked in English, but in the book Gulliver and the lilliputians were living in the same period of time, and the lilliputians spoke a different language that Gulliver had to learn. In the film when Gulliver arrives to Lilliput he meets Horatio, an inhabitant of Lilliput, this character has an affair with the Lilliputian Princess, whereas in the book the princess was in love with Gulliver and the name of Gulliver's friend was Reldresal instead of Horatio. As it was said previously, there are things that have been added more making this movie more merchantable like the use of technology (iphones, videogames like guitar hero, computers, internet access) and popular music and products (coca-cola drinks).

Anyway, there are some book aspects that a film cannot avoid for maintaining the story. In both, the film and book, the protagonist went throught a shipwreck and because of it he arrived accidentaly to Lilliput. In both versions, the protagonist woke up on his back with strings across his body, which were tied by the lilliputians, also in two accations had to help the lilliputians from danger, once of a fire and another time he had to fight against the Blefuscudian people as in the book as in the film. About the characters, they were similar because in both there were an emperor, a princess and Gulliver's partner and the two towns participating in the story were in a constant struggle.
